all speakers don't play audio

I had a perfectly working setup in my car with an alpine head unit I installed myself (carelessly twist and tape) and three aftermarket speakers and one stock speaker. I got sick of the one stock speaker sounding like crap so I installed two new aftermarkets. They were just plug and play. It all worked perfectly for about two days. Now, no audio comes out of any of the speakers. The he's unit seems to be working perfectly, just no sound comes out. I'm going to thoroughly check the head unit's wiring tonight and solder it. I don't think that the head unit wiring was the issue. Does anyone know what the issue could be? I tried unplugging the negative battery for 10 mins so that everything would reset so it's not any setting that I selected improperly on the stereo. The only connection on the head unit tht was a little loose was the ground. Could not having a ground cause all four speakers to stop playing audio completely? Thanks.

Could loss of ground cause loss of sound while the ground is removed yes. Could this cause a short and possibly allow one of the speaker wires to provide a short to ground via the speaker itself touching the metal in the door/dash/deck? Yes, this situation COULD burn up the internal mosfets of the radio. Depending on if any of that circuitry is linked inside the head unit, it could in fact burn out all 4 channels of the radio.

This is all just a theory. Start by unplugging the radio and redoing every connection properly, or try another radio.

What are the chances that you got into the setup and turned off the POWER IC?  Not an option on some Alpine decks, but since you did not tell us what model the deck is, it may or may not have this option.

I believe I did turn off the POWER IC. I thought I tried to turn it back on without any luck and I thought pulling the battery would have reset that back to factory? What does the Power IC do? I checked all of the wiring behind the head unit and It all looks good. but yes, I was messing with the settings at the same time this happened. That was my reasoning for pulling the battery wire. Did I cause some kind of damage by turning off power IC?

The power IC is the output chip that drives the speaker wires of the deck.  Disconnecting the battery will not fix it.  Most of the radios with that feature default OFF. 

If I knew which deck you had, I may be able to help you.  Hint Hint.

It is definitely on now. I don't have the deck model a hand yet. I'll post back ASAP with it. Still doesn't work even though it's on

If it is an AI-net unit, there is a recessed switch on the bottom of the unit.  Make sure the switch is in the NORM position.

What is the make model and year of the vehicle?

My car is a 1995 Subaru legacy outback wagon 2.2l

Just a thought since you said the Power IC was indeed turned off, turn it on, then unplug the radio and reconnect it. Does the PowerIC stay on does it now work? Alpine is very strange with some of their options.To master and control electricity is perfection. *evil laugh*
