viper 5002 lock access weirdness

Unit has been installed for 2½ years, worked fine all that time. Now all of a sudden the remote will no longer lock or arm it. The doors lock automatically upon startup. I don't have a bitwriter, so I'm stuck with valet mode programming. Using the installation manual steps on programming via tables and the valet button, door opening and ignition steps don't seem to do anything, although I do get the chirps telling me it has accepted the changes. The panic button will not trip the siren. I can still manually lock and unlock the car, but the remote is not doing me much good. Is there a master factory reset I'm not seeing in the manual? Sounds like a bad brain, programming shouldn't change by itself.
