OK my Delco 10SI is rated 63amps which is not enough power so I've seen aftermarket replacements that will fit so I wanted to try and rebuild my broken one since I already have the alt on hand so my question is there a bigger set of diodes I can fit in the salt casing. I also seen on CS-144 alts some upgraded ones have dual sets of diodes and the second set is outside the alt. Also I know the 12si is pretty much the same expect where the connections is .but how about the mounts

If you looking for more amps the a stock cs-130 rated @105amps with a pigtail swap would bolt right in and the pulleys are interchangable. Which you can get at any salavage yard cheap.

So a Cs 130 will fit a 78 Chevy nova straight 6 engine

Be aware that the lug spacing did change slightly from the standard 6.6-inch distance between the opposing lugs (common all the way back to the 10DN) to a slightly shorter 6.14 inches for the cs130 &cs130d.
If thats an issue you can use the 12si which will bolt right in for sure as long as there room for the larger casing.

Problem solved I'm try that so basically get a cs130 and change the front pulley on it and upgrade the pos lead and convert the four pin harness to fit the two

Just make sure you get the 105 amp one, and if you plan to make the swap permanent get the pigtail plug with the Alt. if you go for the used one.

Its gonna be permanent reason being I'm going to add a 5 channel amp and the factory alt can't can't support it. I found two links that might help one is a rebuild kit for the cs10 and aftermarket one that says it supports up to 110a options links are below

Just be aware that the 10si dosen't put out full output until it excceds (7000 Alt.shaft rpm), so low rpm output will still be low. The cs130 design has a higher output at idle and has full output at half the rpm of the 10si.

A modern alternator with an external fab? Holy cow! (IMO forget it.)
And as to "self exciting one wire" that's probably bullsh. They usually do not self excite without the charge lamp connected, and if they do they may be a relatively high parasitic load on the battery.
But I suggest 2-wire alternators anyhow - ie alternators with a Sense (S) terminal so they monitor the battery voltage irrespective of where it is. (I think Delco 4-wire are really 2-wire; 2 of the wires are not normally used.)
