Going to upgrade new system in truck Hertz hi- energy components in the front and rear JL audio 2-10 stealthbox pdx-m6 (subs)pdx-F4 (highs) optima yellow top battery already installed alpine Iva-203 headunit. Going for SQ. do I need second battery?2008 silverado crew LT

Do you plan to operate the system with the engine off? You'd likely be better off upgrading the Big 3 and perhaps investing in a high output alternator.Support the12volt.com

If you do decide to upgrade the alternator, contact Ohio Generator. Very knowledgeable and have experience in the car sound industry as far as support for competition vehicles, etc. Some vehicles will not take the larger case that the "high output" alternators use. My truck, a Chevy with a 454, is one such vehicle. I had to go with a stock alternator case with extra diodes installed. I agree that the modification of the "big three" is the place to start. There are some options for the amplifier grounding you might consider as well. For example, I ended up running a 4 gauge ground wire from my battery along the frame rail to the rear of the extended cab and bolted it to a cleaned and sanded area on the frame. From there I ran a 4 gauge wire to the floor board and installed a stud, first sanding and cleaning (with DeOxit) the metal and using copper washers. I used a second stud on the floor boards for the other side of the rear cab.   The amplifiers are grounded to these two studs.Chronic, late stage optimist.
