Oh my bad I just followed what you are trying to do and if the remote that came with the car doesn't have a trunk release option then I think it cannot be done

i would try relearning the remote to the alarm

It can be done per many write ups on civic forums. The problem is related to the viper unit, can anyone else help?

i tried the steps in http://directeddealers.com/manuals/IG/viper/N4102_2008_09_web.pdf to reprogram the remote and nothing happened. the steps are quite confusing, so if someone can direct me step by step that would be helpful.

Ok-here it is:

press and hold function button on remote for 10 secs

hold remote start button till it blinks 3 times

open door

turn key to on position

press and release valet button once, release, and then again and hold

hold lock button for 1 sec

release valet and turn key off

after some researching, this may have something to do with the alarm brain programming, done with software from the installer. does this make sense to anyone? bit writer?
