How Much Current Do Glow Gauges Need?

Hi, Im new to this board and I tried to use the search funtion, but I didn't turn up any results. Now my question is, those glow gauges that everyone buys for there cars, how much current do they need? I know that they come with an converter. I wanna know if its possible to make your own converter? For some reason, the one that came with my glow gauges makes this whining noise when its on. Is this normal? or does this mean that its bad? Also, I nave noticed that if I use all 4 discs with the converter, the brightness is drastically different than if I just used 2 discs with the converter. I was thinking of making my own if its possible so that I can have 1 converter for each disk thus making them brighter in general. Also, I wanna get rid of that whining noise. its nothing major, just a pain. The noise kinda sounds like the feedback from the alternator when you dont properly gournd your stereo system. The whining noise is not normal, as far as I know. You should return it under warranty. It would not be worth the time it would take.Certified Security Specialist

The noise may actually be normal, especially if they are the 5 color type. I have gauges that are switchable between blue/green with a dimmer knob, and they make a real soft whining noise you can only hear if you are listening for it with the doors shut and radio off. I remember back in the old days my Timex with indigo light made a similar noise when I turned it on in a quiet room. I agree with auex if it is a loud annoying whining noise though...

Yeah. I know.. its only really noticable when I have the doors closed and the radio off. Its not loud at all. its just kinda annoying. I guess that I will just have to stick that thing in a piece of foam to keep the noise from getting on my nervs. I have any and all little creaks and sqeaks in the car. and that whining isn't helping much either.
