Long time member new poster here!! Truck is a 2003 chevy silverado with keyless entry from the factory- I am trying to add remote start. 1st question is do I need the bypass module, when I put a key in the cluster says key 1 but, I had a broken ignition a year ago and my mechanic put a new ignition in with a new chevy key and just the other day I made a new blank for it at a car quest ($2.00) and it starts the car perfectly fine but the cluster says key 1 when either key is in the ignition- thanks for all your help

Probably do need a bypass module ( unless the mechanic did something to the BCM programming ).  Passlock2 does not have a transponder chip in the key.  The ignition cylinder has internal resistor, therefore a regular key will work but the remote starter won't because it doesn't rotate the ignition cylinder to ON.
Soldering is fun!
