I would like to install an ordinary  normally open push button within reach for locking and unlocking my door locks. Currently, to lock and unlock my car doors from within, I have to pull up or push down the lock lever. Is there a way to use an ordinary push button for this?

do you mean adding power door locks? If so you can buy power door lock actuators, they can be tricky but all in all are easy to install.

Sure ,you just have to find out what type of power lock you have. Then just add a button that will give a ground or positive signal to the power lock system to open or close.

Thanks for the answers.

What I meant was, I already have a centralized door lock system. The problem is that I have to grab the lock lever over my left shoulder with my right hand when unlocking the door. I want to wire a push button in my existing Relay system (2 pieces) and place it somewhere convenient to reach. My friend's car uses a simple SPST normally open push button and two SPDT relays. I don't know how the technician did it but I really like the feature.

My other option is to use an SPDT rocker switch with a rest postion (ON-OFF-ON) which is alot easier to rewire.

I never had power door locks in my car...so I installed 2 actuators. But I still had no button to open the locks, so I installed a switch like you're talking about...it's called a non-locking rocker switch (on-off-on), and it rests in the middle.
Since I had added two actuators, I had added two relays to make them work. I believe I just hooked up the switch to the relays to lock and unlock them.

Here's the diagram that I had when I did this. You'll see that I had to add 2 relays, and then I had added 2 actuators as well. All I did was attach one end of the switch to the lock output from the unit, and the other end of the switch to the unlock output of the unit....and the middle of the switch is attached to ground. So...depending on which way you press the switch, it will give ground to either lock or unlock.

Good luck...write back if you have more questions.

Thank you ! I have a Clifford IG-700IQ with smart windows and the installer had to retrofit it with power door locks, with this I guess all I have to do is go to the relays and tap into them.

Yea, if you have a similar situation...then that's probably all you have to do. I guess he added actuators and 2 relays to your car? Then yea, you just have to tap into the wires shown above....and make sure you find a good spot for the switch.

Which switch should do the job- 2A @ 250VAC
                           or a 6A @ 125VAC ?
The 2A is 1.95 at jameco.com and the 6A is 5.95 at RadioShack. Should it make a difference? It's only going to ground...
