Did you program them to position 1? (Door open, key on, press release, press hold)? I think you need to program to position 7 or 8. One of Those are the old auto program locations with separate arm/disarm buttons. Old position 1 was single button arm/disarm

Not 100% sure how to do that. The manual says that option 7 is what I want, and I know I need to open the door, turn the key on,hit the valet button 7 times then press and hold it, but is that it? Does that activate that menu option?

You got it! Press release 7 times, then press and hold, then press lock.
