buy polyester trunk liner, by the yard. it will dry up to 1/4 thick. cut down on the time and money spent on mat or fleece.

if you want the box to be strong then you have to use glass. 1.5 oz chop mat works well and is pretty cheap.

you can add chop mat later on top of the stretch material. go to a auto paint and body shop that sells to shops. you might not be able to . see if they sell to the public, then try and get it. its excellent for forming shapes and stretching over molds.
