I'm sorry if this topic was beaten to death already...I searched the forum

and was unable to solve my question, so I figured I'd ask:)

When you want to hook up the sunroof to open and close with the 4th

channel on the remote, do you need a seperate window module, or
do you need a relay?

I'm not interested in the window closing with the alarm or anything,

just being able to open (and possibly close) it with the 4th button.

Thanks!

(If you need more info, let me know.)

You can do it with a single relay that will either open or close ( whatever you decide to attach to the relay ). The only problem is that if the channel is latched, continuous or pulsed. It will work if the channel is latched ( 5 seconds or less ) or pulsed. The signal from the alarm will activate the relay for as long as there is power going to the relay. If the channel is pulsed for 1 second, the sunroof will close for 1 second and stop. Then you have to press the button again to finish the job. Same goes for the latched but make sure that the latching time does not exceed the sunroof close time by alot or else you will burn out the motor ( unless of course your sunroof relay deactivates after the sunroof is closed ? ).

Can you explain the difference between latched, continuous, and pulsed?
How do I figure out what type of setting the alarm puts out?
Will all of this be solved if I just get a single window module?
THANKS!

  • Latched : a preset time that this wire has power . Usually 5 - 30 seconds depends on the system
  • Pulsed: the wire only outputs for a 1 second pulsed duration
  • Continuous : the wire has continuous output once the button is pressed

What kind of alarm fo you have ? If you get a single window module it is better to have a latched output that will release it's current after the preset time of the alarm.

I'm looking to buy the viper 550esp.  There's extra channels, but I'm not sure if the auxillary is latched, pulsed, or continuous.

Cool...here's the info on the fourth channel for this alarm:

H2/3 Violet/Black 200 mA (-) channel 4 output

This wire provides a (-) 200mA output whenver the transmitter button(s) controlling Channel 4 is pressed.

This output can be programmed to provide the following types of outputs :

1.  Validity:  Output that will send a signal as long as the transmission is received.

2.  Latched:  Output that will send a signal when the CH4 button is pressed, and will continue
until the same button is pressed again
3.  Latched, reset with ignition:  similar to the latched, this type will turn on the first time the
button is pressed and off the next time the same button is pressed. this type of output additionally
stops and resets whenever the ignition is turned on and then off
4.  30-second timed:  output that will send a continuous signal for 30 seconds

IMPORTANT:  never use this wire to drive anything but a relay or low-current input!

So, let me see if I get this straight:

If I hook up channel 4 to my sunroof's "open" circuit (with a relay), then:

1.  If I use VALIDITY, the sunroof will open for as long as I hold the button.

2.  If I use LATCHED, when I hit the button the sunroof will open and keep going
until I hit the button again to stop it.
3.  LATCHED RESET WITH IGNITION - same as 2 basically
4.  30-second timed:  I probably shouldn't use this because it will kill my sunroof's motor

So basically, I can just use a single relay to control opening it up.  I guess there's

no way to open and close, but that's not a huge problem (maybe if I had another
extra channel, I could wire it to the negative).

Am I right on what I've said?

Thanks!

Ok, the sunroof's switch has 3 wires:

1.  Green
2.  Black
3.  GREEN/ Red
4.  GREEN/ YELLOW

If I want to open the sunroof with my 4th channel, which one do I have to tap?

Also, on the relay, does BLUE and BLACK get 12v+, or just black... and blue get's grounded?

Thanks!

Hi,

Can someone provide further information?  I burned a wire, so I don't think I was doing
it correctly:(  This is how I incorrectly connected the relay to open the sunroof:

RELAY:

30 (Blue)  -->  +12v
85 (Black) -->  +12v
86 (White) -->  Alarm's accessory wire
87 (Yellow) ->  GREEN/ Red on Sunroof switch
87a (red)  -->  Not used

Burrrnnn, I slightly burned the GREEN/ Red wire.  D'oh.  Can someone please show me

where I went wrong (probably in more than one spot).

Thanks!

By the way, I hooked it up to the Trunk release option on my remote, which I'm assuming
is "validity" because it continues for as long as you hold it (or so I thought).  When
it was hooked to the trunk, it would keep the trunk solenoid "pulled" until you let go of
the button.

what car is yours? and when you close the sunroof does the circuit automatically turn off the switch so you won't burn the motor when it's fully closed?

it's a '92 acura integra.  i don't think the circuit automatically turns off the switch because once the

window is closed, if I keep holding the switch you can hear the motor running.

Any ideas?
