I have a 2003 Chevy silverado. I am trying to add a pinswitch to trigger the factory alarm. It has a fiberglass bedcover and the customer wants the interior of the bed protected, yet doesnt want to upgrade from the factory alarm just yet. I was thinking maybe I could just tie in with a door trigger. Any suggestions??

I did this on my car once. I new when the truck was open cause it would turn on the door is ajar warning and turn on the domelight.
If you do this you might want to install a flip switch the customer can hit in the event he needs to leave the cover open (big loads).
Good Luck.

Sure you can do it. I would recommend that you tie into the hood pin if it has one though, and be sure you use a diode or two.

The individual doorpin wires on that truck are only available inside the doors, unfortunately.
You're going to have to go into one of the doors, and find the door trigger wire going from the doorlatch to the electronic door module inside the door.
I agree strongly with the other person's suggestion about putting a toggle switch to interrupt the trigger. But put it inside the cab of the truck, so it won't rust, and so thieves can't access it.

What color wire should I tie into, and where? toggle switch sounds like a good idea. Is there any other way besides going inside the door? Does anyone know what color the wire is after it comes into the kick panel?

The best way is to try the way auex is saying first and you wont have to worry about the door chime going off or the dome light turning on when its open you can still use an on/off switch if you want to bypass the pinswitch if you want to so you can keep the system armed if you have the bed open.

auex's method is a very good one, but GM cars don't come with factory hoodswitches, so it won't work.
As far as I can think of, you're going to have to go into the door to trip the factory alarm.

How many wires could there possibly be coming from the doorlatch and going to the door module? Probably two, maybe a couple more at most. Just test them until you find the right one.
