I'm going to install an Autostart 1525 unit on a friends 03 Malibu. He has the remote starter but he doesn't have the passlock bypass yet. The place he wants to buy from doesn't have / can't get the IPP03 or the PSLRN bypass module. They are trying to sell him a unit called the PL2002 or the PL2002A. I can't find any info on these units. Has anyone used either of these modules? Do you have to cut the passlock wires, or just tap into them? I know that the PL2002 uses a rotary potentiometer to set the resistance, and I'm thinking that the PL2002A is autolearning, but am not sure. Does anyone know. Thanks.

I suggest using the PLXR module instead of the IPP03 . It's cheaper and just as affective. As to the other two modules, I have never heard of them either. Sounds like your friend knows what he wants. The PLXR is a reliable bypass module and I have used many so far and have not had any problems with them.

Thanks a lot Jeff. Good to know about the PLXR.  Anyone else heard of the PL2002 or PL2002A?

thats all we use here, but we refer to them as pl2002a & pl2002b, the a's come in a plastic box(its acually an old shock sensor case) and the b's are shrink-rapped in heat-shrink. The both use a rotary potentiometer. The b's are great, but the a's don't work on passlock I without a fix and the have a tendancy to lock up the vehicle if you have them plugged in when u go to set them. We have done thousands of vehicles with these units and very few comebacks.

ya the pl2002a will be good in your application, since the malibu has passlock 2.  You just tap into the ignition, and 2 of the wire's off the key cylender (black, and yellow)  and a (-) output from the starter.   When the led in lit, turn the screw countclockwise very slowly till it dims, and go just till the led goes out.  Simple as that.

Ya, the a's are still ok, the don't come back either, but i would use a b, just because it is a better unit. We prefer them over 555lw and other because you don't have to cut the passlock wires, which is less painfull when dealing with warrenty issues from the dealers. Plus if they ever do screw up, there's less chance of the vehicle becoming undrivable, just unplug it, and there is no ressistance left on the wires.
