I just purchased a crimestopper 999 for my 96 4runner. The install looks to be really straightforward, but on I have two small problems. (1) I need to locate the tach wire. (2) What is the "Correct" place to connect the 12v+. I wanted to know if most people connect to the battery or the ignition harness. I just want a trouble free installation.

Thank you for any help.

-for tach, most of toyotas have a black wire on a diagnostic port under the hood and/or under the dash.
if youre not able to grab a tach from those place, try to get from the igniters.
-for 12volt, i would go straight to the ignition harness, quicker install. i dont know about others, i think they would hate to feed a wire through the firewall. remember to fuse, very crucial if youre tapping into an existing wire.
-but the "correct", if you want to call it that, way is to go with the battery. you want to power it independent.
hope this give you some idea

Profuse is correct, you have two 12V input wires on the rs-999, get them off the ignition switch harness.  Theres usually two 12V constants, use one per/wire.   If you run into any problems, post again.  I install the Crimestoppers, and have the RS-999FM in my own truck.
