Hey all I gotta quick question for a 2002 Chevy Silverado with Passlock that's coming into my bay for a remote start in a few days.  Now I've dealt with installing remote starts with factory theft deterrant systems before...but for some reason, I always run into problems with GM's and that Godd#mn Passlock!  I don't know why!  If I did I wouldn't be asking you all for some tips.  Any help you can give me for finding the resistance and hooking them up and all that other good stuff, would be greatly appreciated!

always use the ground wire at the key cylinder for your bypass system. since if started this no problem. If you can get a hold of the DEI piece , works great!

Cool thanx man!!  I know the DEI piece...I love it to...However my main problem is trying to figure out what the resistance has to be for the starter to turn...I can't remember for the life of me how to figure that out!!  I swear sometimes I wonder if I called a chevy dealership and gave them the VIN, if they could tell me what the resistance is supposed to be.....oh well, maybe someday I'll try that.  In the mean time, I need to know how to test for the resistance...I've seen other installers do it, but either I forget to ask them how, or they switch shops....anyhow, thanks for that lil tip, I jotted it down in my lil notebook...

Go to this link for most of the instructions needed to bypass the Passlock or Passkey with relays instead of the modules. Also has instructions on how to measure resistance of the chip.

Nevermind.........

thanks for all the help guys, but with a little net searching, a case of Budweiser (don't drink if you're under 21! LOL).  And an outta the blue call from an installer friend of mine that I ain't talked to in about a year in a half...I got it!!!  OMG!  I can't believe how easy it is....Geez...you'd think I was either a Newbie MECP Basic or a DIY'r, not MECP First Class!  LOL....what can I say...I like fords...hey now...no crap guys and gals!  I know I've heard them all...Flip Over Read Directions, etc, etc...  Anyway thanks Christophe, and Thanx Velocity....

Another Quick question for you velocity.....

do you guys sell the DEI 555L module mentioned in here...and if so for how much....that I way I i know for the next time I run into this!  Resistors can be so messy looking.....

Jester

We do not sell DEI products.... but we use another system that has a 4 wire hook up and it is self programmed to the Passlock/VATS/Passkey systems.

1 WIRE CONNECTION DISARMS PASSLOCK 2

PASSLOCK 2 DATA INTERFACE = 1 WIRE PASSLOCK 2 BYPASS

No wires to cut, 4 wires in total to install:
(1) Data Bypass wire disarms Passlock 2 when remote starter is activated.
(2) +12Volts provides constant power to the interface kit.
(3) Ground wire provides a constant ground to the interface kit.
(4) Ground when running wire from remote starter activates Interface kit on demand.

These are the cat meow for interface kits on 2002 Chevy/GMC vehicles !!

I second that for being the cat's meow....Good lord, I could have used that today....probably would have saved me a Sh*t load of time!  But it's done, and this time I needed no help from another installer.

Thanx All, and thank the heavens for 12Volt.com

One more quick question velocity......

does it just work Passlock 2 or will it work on any Passlock/VATS/Passkey?

you know how it goes, sometimes you get those cars in that want remote start but they got Passlock one or equivalent.
