My wife just got a 1997 Sable with 20,000 miles. The factory door remotes do not work. The power locks work fine. When I picked up the car it had a dead battery, no light or anything. Do the remotes need to be reprogramed or something. I would like to get this resolved before I install a remote starter.

This is going to sound stupid, but have you changed the batteries in the factory remote? If that's allright, check with your dealer on programming...it's generally not so complicated that you'll pay out the ass for it.

Cycle ignition from off to run 5 times within 10 secs, ending in run. All doors will lock then unlock to confirm programming mode. Press any button on 1st remote, door locks will cycle to confirm programming, press any button on 2nd remote, turn ignition to off. Locks will again cylce to indicate end of programming mode.
