Hello All,

I am having a small problem with my LED on my alarm. If no LED is hooked up I have 12v coming from the + side of the Wires to Ground. Now I have 2 Varad 12V LED and also I have 2 more LED I want to hook to it. Now here's the trouble spot When I hook 2 of the LED's to the Wire one runs Bright and one runs Half lit untill you cut one wire off the second LED. If you Meter the wire running to the second LED once cut off it has a 3 volt reading. I swear without any LED attached it was running 12 V. How would I get this 3V wire to run a 12V SPDT relay to run more LEd's in my truck. Any an all help would be greatful.

Thanks,

Digger

What type of alarm do you have? Most alarm's only put out 2(two)volts. While the positive side of the led will have 12 the negative side only will put out(allow) 2 volts.

The first thing is that you only need to wire the two Varads to the armed output of the starter kill relay, using a diode in place.
The other additional LEDS, you wish to wire up can be done so in series, up to a maximum of 12 standard red LEDS.
======================================================
To interface with your existing starter kill relay which will have a *ground when armed* output.
You will install one diode on the ground when armed output coming out of the alarm CPU with the first diode cathode (stripe side) facing toward the alarm.
The second diode will be placed on the same ground when armed wire prior to the first diode.
Picture a (L) shaped =    _|_ <--- this is what I mean.
Alarm CPU   ____ | <-- the other end of the diode is the wire you use to activate the extra Varads.
The other ___ will lead to the starter kill.

Auex : The alarm is a Autostart as-6000tw I thinjk it is or its TW-6000as

Teken : You have now lost me after the Stripe facing the alarm on the ground when armed. Oh do you mean use a Y off the Ground when armed so one leg of the Y goes to led's and second leg of the Y goes to Starter kill. then use the + only from the LED output to power the LED's

the voltage across an LED is determined by the LED, not what you supply, if you put 100V across an LED with a 3V forward voltage, it will have 3V across it (although it would blow up)

I would not use a relay for this as they draw too much curent to keep the coil field.

varad scanners have their own flashing mechanism, so you really only need to turn them  on and off.  using a relay triggered by the starter kill output (ground out when armed), you can power 200 varad scanners if you like.  forget diodes....

LEDs are a different story ...if all you wish to have is the blinking LED look, you can get 12volt self-flashing leds that blink when powered up.  Add them to the same relay driven circuit as the varads and be done with it...

The ones I want to add are not Varad self controled. They are the LED Winsheild Spray lets. I have mounted them in side on the dash and want the Eyes to flash with alarm. Oh maybe just buy the Varad Self controled ones and Cut of Regual LED and Attch the Control box the the regular LED lights. I think I have the Control boxes from a pair some where here. Should have thought about this before dam it...LOL!

I would like to thank all for info here as I thought about different ways of doing this. I did go with the Flash control box ioff the set of Varads I had cut off. Wired both to one controler. And now when armed my Led eyes in the skulls I bough Flash with alarm.

Ty All!
