ok some of you probably remember my post about the nissan pathfinder 01 we did a couple weeks ago.....if u dont...to make a long story short..we tried to put a remote starter in this vehicle and pulled the chip out of the key like we do on Fords. well it didnt work like it does on fords! lol the car could not be started and had to be reprogrammed at Nissan. my question is how can we know wether the vehicle has an immobilizer or not? all the tech sheets we looked at mentioned nothing about it. and i know that if we stick two keys in that vehicle...the same thing will happen...the car cant be started. there has to be a way to know which vehicles are not able to have a remote starter installed without having this happen. another i know of is 2001 Ford Explorer...the same thing happened with it...before i worked at this shop..the other installer told me about it. but anyway....how can we know which vehicles cannot be remote started? thanks

are you putting a relay to break the bypass trigger when key is in ign my friends sporttrac locked up when he had his wifes key on his key ring had to go to dealer to be unlocked also happens with shell speedpasses

When you pull the chip out of the key, what do you do with it? I hope you aren't putting it near the key cylinder and permanately bypassing the factory anti-theft feature. If so, that is a complete hack way of doing it.

For most late model nissans, there is a bypass kit you should use. One fairly common model is the DEI 555U where you keep a spare key (or transponder from a key) in a box and it's wiring is placed around the key cylinder. The box is of course hidden and away from the key ignition area.

well we dont sell DEI security only audiovox. we have a audiovox bypass kit that we use for Passlock and VATS and the Ford transponder keys. but it does not work for immobilizer. and plus i was told that two chips in the vehicle at the same time will lock the security system so the vehicle cant be started

My shop has done hundreds of Nissans over the last few years, and never had a problem with the keys locking themselves out. You can use a 555U, or whatever key-in-box unit your alarm accessory company uses. My shop makes our own out of 22 gauge wire and a relay. Makes it easier to hide than the big clunky box with a key.....saves a few bucks too. We also break the shaft of the key off just in case a thief were to find the key. In the case of Nissan, we always have the customer give up the valet key that comes with the car.

There are a couple cars out there that will have problems if they see more than one key at a time. Our vehicle info database makes a note about them. In those cases, you need to tie into the cars key sense wire to interupt the bypass unit. Most cars just won't start if they see more than one key at the same time, but there won't be any long term damage.

There are very few car manufacturers out there that a no-key-required bypass is not made for. Nissan is one of them because it requires a factory scan tool to program keys. VW, volvo, saab, bmw, audi are others. I think I stock bypasses for all the other manufacturers.

The best way to bypass the immobilizer is to use a key in the box defeat, or make your own like JWorm said. If your shop is dead set on removing the chip from the key and mounting it near the cylinder then you must tell the customer that is what you are doing and you must also remove the chips from all of the other keys they have, you should also tell the customer that if they are to get a new key made that this will cause a problem doing so.

but see the problem was as soon as we removed the chip from the key. the vehicle lost the code or something and even when we put the chip back in the key, the car could not be started. I just wanna know what i would have to do next time we get a vehicle with an immobilizer in the shop that wants a remote starter installed. what do i have to do with the keysense wire JWorm? this is really confusing! lol i just want to know what to do so i dont have any more problems like we did with that pathfinder.
