Alarm: Compustar 2WFM-A

Vehicle: 99 Dodge Ram

ok, having a little trouble with my alarm install. what are the minimum things I need hooked up to test my alarm?

I have a good ground and power to the brain. I have my door actuators hooked up via relays. I have the antenna, shock sensor, siren, and remote paging system plugged into the alarm. Do I need to program my remote to work with the unit (like the add remote procedure listed in the manual)? I plug everything in and get nothing. the remote gives me the signal that it is transferring to the brain, but its not doing anything (no chirps, no led, nothing). the shock sensor has power to it, I can see its little light on. must I have the parking light output hooked up for the alarm to be functional? what is a good source for the ignition input? at the moment I have it hooked up from the fuse box (from the radio fuse). is this bad?

sorry for all the questions, but I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. thanks everybody.

oh one more question: for the door trigger input I have three wires. white, black with green, and tan. the sources I have found on the internet say the wire is susposed to be yellow. right now I'm tapping into the tan wire comming from the trigger. is that the correct wire and should that suffice for an input?

You need to program the remote control for brand new units.
To avoid dome delay, use tan for the drivers door and BLACK/ lt. blue for the passenger door. Both wires are located at the central timer module to the right side of the steering column. Use both wires and diode isolate each.

what do you mean by dome delay? and what is a good source for the ignition input?

You know when the dome light is on for about 30 seconds after the last door is closed. The circuit delays the power and slowly drains a cap inline of the OEM power wire. A good ignition source would be from the ignition harness ( DARK BLUE ).

ahh, I do not have dome delay on my truck. so can I just go with the tan wire in the drivers kick panel?

also, I'm having some trouble finding the parking light wire where they say it should be. how bad would it be to take the wire under the hood where I can easily get to the parking lights?

ok, was able to figure out my parking light ordeal, I went right to the headlight switch and tapped the appropriate line there.

on to the big problem. I am having the hardest time programming the remote. my directions say cycle the ignition 5 times to enter valet mode, then press button I on the remote for 1/2 sec. I do this and nothing happens. again I checked and the alarm brain is getting power. everything is plugged in. batteries in the remote are fine. anybody have any suggestions?

I've tried cycling the ignition like this:

on/off

on/off , press button I

and like this:

on/off

on, press button I

neither of these work. suggestions? TIA

ok, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was turning the ignition on, the all the way to off, not stopping at the first click on the ignition like I was susposed to.

next question: there is a clicking coming from my brain when the parking lights flash. I take this is from the onboard parking ligth relay activating, but I want to make sure. is this normal? the 2WFM-A does have an onboard parking light relay, right?

Yes, the Compustar does have onboard relays for lights otherwise the lights would not be able to flash.
