That's really strange. He says he typed directly into the reply box and not copy/paste from a rich text editor such as Word®.
Also, even if you copied from a rich text editor such as Word® and then paste that into this textarea form- field, it will only paste the text part filtering out the rich tags just as you would paste into Notepad®.
It would be interesting to know the real cause.

markcars, no, it does not filter out the rich text tags or HTML tags. I should know since I wrote the application to do just what it is doing.... replacing HTML brackets < > with { }. When he replied stating he typed directly into the reply box, he did so for that particular message, not his original message.

In addition to what I mentionned, if you select "Enable the Windows IE 5 + WYSIWYG post editor" in your profile, you will be able to paste exactly what you see in your rich text editor but still, the codes won't be displayed. So it is still strange why the raw html tags were displayed, and that too the < and> were replaced by { and }.

This is a test of

Table with 2 rows and 2 columns.

copy/paste from Word® to form multiline textarea

 blank cell

Still a mystery to me.

Ok here's the solution. Do not check on "Enable the Windows IE 5 + WYSIWYG post editor" in your profile. It shows up nicely, just like what you see while typing before posting, however after posting, it saves in the above raw format or "garbage" that you call it.

Thanks for correcting my error the12volt, I did not realise that his final message was typed directly into the box and there werent codes anymore.
Also can you check the profile settings? When you select to "Enable the Windows IE 5 + WYSIWYG post editor", you will see the problem surfaces. Since you wrote the application/script, I am sure you can fix that. Thanks.

markcars, true, if the WYSIWYG editor is disabled or if you are using Netscape Navigator, it doesn't matter what you copy and paste from, however, if it is enabled, which by default it is for IE users, it will do what I described previously as it did when you copied and pasted from a rich text editor in your previous post. If you do disable the WYSIWYG editor and you are using IE, you will not be able to paste tables into your post as shown below.

I unchecked the WYSIWYG editor. Let's see if that works.
Thanks for the help!

You're welcome, however there is nothing to fix. It was done intentionally to prevent wacky code produced by Word® from making some forum pages display incorrectly.
