I personally feel 15" are overrated just cause of the size and power. I have seen 10's and even 12's hit harder and sound cleaner then some 15's. Depends on what your putting it into and what you want.. I would go with the 12's.

what is your definition of sound better, the L5 15 would probably be 'louder' while your L7 12" would sound better imo...

You would probably get boomier bass out of the 15 than the 12 but get better sq from the 12. It all depends on what you are going after, I personally prefer 12's but that's just me. I find that 12's give me a happy medium between "boom" and sq, again it depends on what you're after.

which one would be louder?  If you were to run the same power to both, I'd say go with the 12".  You'd get better sound out of it and the power handling would be the same, so they would be very close in regards to volume.

I would also go with the 12". 15"s I found are kinda sloppy sounding and can get a little behind sometimes.
