My brother gave me a 501bd which is 300 x 4 ohm and 500 x 2 ohm, I have no idea about subs and I was wondering what sub would give me the most bang with this type of amp, I'm only looking to buy one sub, any suggestions would be great...

One Eclipse aluminum 12" sub, model # SW8122DVC or if you want to go for the gusto musto, one Eclipse Titanium 12", model# SW9122. Your Rockford amp will make more than it's recommended power, thus should easily be able to drive the big nasty Titanium. Rockford 501bd Help -- posted image.. Eclipse is not available at a unauthorized web dealer, only from dedicted and true die-hards like myslef and others on this site that own our own businesses. You must purchase from an authorized dealer if you value warranty. If you are interested in this sub, I'll help you out with the proper box design for it.

This sub will play way deep bass, moderate to loud SPL and play with amazing SQ that most other brands can only dream about. It is not cheap by any means, but you get what you pay for. This one sub will thoroughly clean house on most double 12" sub systems.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

one other questions, does it make a diffrence at all -- my certificate for my amp says max watts 654 even though it is rated at 500, so does that mean I will really be getting a few more wats then what it says?

Your certificate is what Rockford calls the "Birth Certificate" and it's on the money. Every RF amp is tested after assembly and the performance results are recorded on the birth certificate. The catch is in the fine print though... It was rated on a 14.4 volt electrical system, not a standard 12 volt system (trust me I've read enough of them!).
Will you get more than the "stated" 500 watts @ 2ohms...yes (straight from RF Tech support, that rating is the absolute minimum that the amp will produce at 2 ohms)
Will you get the max output rating of 654 that it was tested at...no, not unless you beef up your electrical system severely
