Oh yeah... I was running a complete Sony Xplod system in my first car... 5 1/4s in the door, 6x9s in the deck, and 2 12's in the back on one of their smaller amps ( I think it was the 460) all on a CA700x... it sounded ok for what it was, but distortion levels were horrid. I'm still stuck using the same deck until I break down and buy a good one, but I wont buy anything else Sony for mobile audio period. None of it was worth it.

heres another idea, dont buy car audio from best buy, your best bet is to go to your local car audio specialist.  best buy does not really carry top of the line of anything.  the brands they carry do not really care about quality as much as they care about how many units they can sell to best buy nationally...sure your best buy can hook you up an ok to crappy system for a decent amount, but if you wanna nice system check a specialty audio store.

I would have to say JL, kicker, Audiobahns are pretty good too.. I have a pair of alpine Type R's and they are great.. So it just depends on taste and budget. Just never eva use sony.. they make laptop and great home electronics.. not good car audio..

After blowing a variety of subs myslef (alpine, kenwood, sony and pioneer) my most recent JL configuration has drasticly outperformed any of my previous systems. I have used the same amp (kenwood KAC-7201) for all systems, and the amp itself has responded best to the JL subs. I definately reccomend changing your explods to a nice pair of JL W0 Subs. They are the lower end of the JL line, but i can guarantee a significant improvment to xplod "1100w" (riiiight) subs. You should also be aware of the fact that the Sony Amp you have will be a bottleneck in any system. Sony amps have way more bark than bite, they tend to be low quality, and inefficient. Much of your distortion will likely come from the amp regardless of the subs that are connected. Consider a JL e1200 amplifier. It is very efficient with regards to power use, and will hit drastic amount of frequencies compared to the sony. JL's officially stated power ratings may not seem impressive to those comparing to sonys"1100watt" subs, however; the JL's are of much higher quality and will definately play louder and clearer. You get what you pay for. I hope my constuctive criticism has helped you in your decision... and no... i dont work for JL ;) I just love there products.

Cheers,

I love my single JL W0 sub. Its power rating is under rated I think. Sony subs could maybe handle 1000 watts at 120 hz lol.

Triple stacked doesn't mean, triple the sound quality and SPL. Its simply a magnet structure. Audiobahn has enormous magnets with very little sound quality and performance.

Someone in the previous post said "JL, Kicker, audiobahn is pretty nice too"....JL is God to audiobahn. Please don't put them in the same sentence. Kicker is good if your going for SPL.

Sony is good if you need paperweights.

JL audio only offer awesome quality, reliable, well-built products. That won't let you down.

Go out and buy 2 12" JL w0's with a ported enclosure tuned to 34htz. Throw that sony amp out the window and atleast buy a reliable amp that won't fail in 1 year at the most. (no joke). JBL bp600.1 at etronics.com would be great.
