I have a 1996 mazda DX with power door locks (if you lock with drivers door key). I would like to add keyless entry. I have read on here that I might be able to tap some wires at tan module near the hood release, but other posts say that I have to put a door lock actuator on the drivers side door. I don't want to put an actuator in the door if I can avoid it. I could not find the BROWN / yellow, white wires at the tan module. Is there another way?

You have to add a door lock motor. There is no door lock motor in the drivers door. So adding it is a must. No mystery wires exist. Sorry.

Maybe I am wrong but it seems like if I lock the passenger door the drivers side door is locked too. I will have to check that though.

For lock use yellow (-), and for unlock use orange (-) and brown (-) on keyless versions.  Non-keyless versions require an actuator in the drivers door.
