Sound definition

I'm looking to purchase my first soundsystem for my 2001 civic si. I need to get a deck, amp, and I would like to get a nice 10" just to push the sound in my car. I don't want a huge bottom end, I dont want distortion, I just want some nice sound definition. First off does anyone have any suggestions on a nice 10" and amp that would run me around $300. I've read through threads and noticed that your not into sony products, and thats fine by me. I saw 2 subs this weekend -  a pioneer 10" 450 watts 120 RMS with a frequency range of 20-450hz, then I saw a 10" fosgate with the same specs however the frequency range was 20-220hz. Would it be fair to say that the pioneer will have more sound definition as the spectrum it picks up is wider?

I'd recommend looking into the elemental design e1OO.44. Finding an amp for it, such as a Rockford Fosgate bd500.1 (or 500s if you buy the SVC 4ohm version of the sub) would bring you around $400 I believe, but well worth the extra dough. If that's too much power, then maybe look at an Alpine Type R or JL Audio 10w3v2. An amp to power these won't cost too much, as they are both 300 watt RMS subs.Jon

My recommendation is going to be an infinty kappa perfect 10.1 D, or a couple of JL Audio 10w0, or 10w3v2, matched up with a 300 watt RMS @2 ohm amp, like JBL BP300.1, or Alpine MRP-M350 or Rockford Fosgate Power 351M. If you shop around you should be able to find these within your price range. For decks, I personally like Alpine, but there are a lot of decks out there. The best way for you to buy anything is to go to local stereo shops and to listen to everything and see what you like.

Between these two, go for the Rockford.  You will hear no real difference between them, but the Rockford will last longer than the Pioneer.
