hello people

i just bought a clarion dxz435 head unit..i wired up the yellow, red and black wires to get the thing turning on..but it isnt turning on..ive checked all fuses, but what do i have to check in the wires with a multimeter to check for acc, constant and so forth, what figures do i expect to see out of a multimeter to tell me what is what

in the wiring diagram theres a wire which says is needed and is called the illumination wire, since its needed this could be part of the problem..BUT the manual or wiring diagram does not say what it is or where it has to go..i dont have any other wires in my dash for the stereo..so what wire does this have to hook up to?

thanks for your help

what type of vehicle are you install the HU into?

To find the wires such as acc., constant,

use your mulitmeter and watch the readings in all the key postions, for example the constant will be hot in every key postion except for the start postion, and the acc. will not be hot when the key is in the off postion or the start postion

as for the illumation wire you may not need it.

i have a 1990 mitsubishi lancer, the whole car has been restored so things such as factory wiring is just not existent in this car :P

i checked the constant and the acc leads..both are completely dead, but no fuses are blown?

these are definitely the right wires as my previous sony head unit had the same wiring, all the colours matched. and all the colour wires compared to the diagram for this head unit were identical

if it isnt a fuse what can it be, and what exactly is the illumination wire for?

This is for the stereo's illumination, some stereo's don't have the wire because they illuminate themselves

have you checked under the hood for a fuse?

have you checked out the HU..? to see if it works

ive checked under the hood, no fuses related to stereo or acc or anything, they are near the steerng wheel under the dash, they are all fine

i asked them to plug in head unit at the store to make sure it worked..after the bad experiences i had with getting a working head unit the first time i wanted a stereo :P, it worked fine

the wires are all 0.00v all the way through..could my multimeter be cactus?

another question..just bear with me here :P

where does the illumination wire have to be plugged into

so the HU works,

do you have a battery laying around or better yet your car battery check to see what the voltage is of your battery

You can check your meter to see if it is working is what I meant by asking about your battery..

possible a wire could have touched some metal and blown a fuse is my guess..

of if you are unsure about the head unit itself not working then you can run to wires from the battery to the head units acc. and constant power wires and ground the amp to the frame of the car...

or if you can just take the HU over to the battery ( alot short wire to run head unit install problem. -- posted image.)

thanks...faulty multimeter was the problem

got me other multimeter out

red wire is 12v constant, acc wire is always showing as 0.00v so id say thats the problem as the head unit def isnt turning on, what else can i do to see WHY the yellow wire isnt working..the fuse is fine soo im out of ideas..

just want to make sure you checked for the acc. by turning the key... correct
