well, i have made up my mind, im going to get the Shiva!  now my only thing is im trying to find an amp. ksin reccomended the US acoustics amp, which makes 450 rms @4 ohms, but i may expand further down the road to 2 subs, in which case i will run the amp at 2 ohms. now im  a little confused on this, as i would want about 3-400 watts rms for this driver, but when the amp makes say 300 watts rms@4 ohms, if i were to run it at 2 ohms, how would the drivers see the power? would it end up being 300 to both drivers or 150 to each driver.

my amp options are now as follows:  the US acoustics amp mentioned above(450x1 rms), JBL bp600.1(300x1 rms), MTX thunder 342(340x1 rms). now i have heard great praise for the JBL amps, and i personally like the MTX amps as they have never failed me like some stupid Fosgate, and i know the US acoustics amp is a good entry level amp, but that is mostly what i have heard it used as.  I am not necessarily an entry level application, and i have chosen these amps by price, features, and preference.

thanks,

Parker

If your gonna expand to two subs down the road then the JL BP600.1 is the way to go.  You'll only get 300 watts out of it at the begining with the one sub since you'll be running it at 4 ohm but when you add the second sub and run both subs in parallel your ohm load will go down to 2 ohms and you'll get 600 watts out of the amp. As for your second question the subs will see 300 watts a piece.

JBL or MTX, both make good amps.  I prefer JBL.  US Acoustics is very good for the money, but really cannot compare to JBL.  The Shiva is a great sub, you won't be sorry.

I'm interested in this same setup but I was wondering, would it be better to find a stronger amp for the one sub or just to run two subs at 300rms each? How well would this set up sound SQ and SPL? Obviously this isn't a SPL set up but how much bass would it have?

It will get plenty low and put out a lot of bass while still maintaining excellent SQ. You should be fine with 600 watts, it will get the job done.

Do I get to vote on this, I like the Lear Jet XL12 and the Alpine 3503 amplifer for this setup. Dyohn might get this, maybe Teken and some others. I too would head in the direction of the Shiva and the JBL amp. I really want to take a JBL amp apart and see if they are building their own amp or if the circuit topology is much the same as any other made in Singakoreachinatiawanapore amp. There is just way too much who makes who in this industry.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
