Two points.  1) Eclipse has never been known for mechanical failures, and their build quality is top of the line.  No way did those surrounds fail because of bad speakers.  Rob is right on the money.  2) If surrounds have seperated and you intend to toss those drivers because of it, I'll give you $20 for what you think is trash right now.  Repairing surrounds is the easiest thing to do in the loudspeaker world.  The cost for repairing those should run no more than $40 each.  The shop who told you they are toast just wants to sell you new speakers.

If you caused the surrounds to seperate from the cone on a pair of 8712's with a Kicker 400.2, then it must have been clipping like a drunk barber.

so can someone look at the specs of that amp and those speakers and tell me what settings to run on it. and how would i go about fixing the surround? what kind of place would be able to fix this?  can i buy a flexible silicone glue and do it myself? or should i pay someone?

OK, first of all do you know how to match the input gain on an amplifier to the output from your head unit?

Silicone glue is not the answer, although if the surround has simply lifted and is not damaged, you COULD try superglue if you are very careful and patient.  Repairing surrounds is best done by a speaker repair shop.  Where do you live?

Amazing what can be found on the web, eh?  :0  That shop looks like a good place since they work on high-end loudspeakers and they've been around a while.  They don't list Eclipse as one of their serviced brands, but go there and show them what you have and I bet they can either help you or direct you to a place that can do the job.  Good luck!

I bet they'd do it for you (assuming there is no other damage) for one hour shop charge or less.  You might also ask them to test the voice coils and make sure the speakers are OK.

get your speakers repaired and then let's tackle why this happened in the first place.
