Im curious as to the many different ways you can set amplifiers gains etc correctly. Anyone and everyone give up your technique.

the best way is to use your ears and listen to the sub u can tell if its to much to little or just right if its distorted it will sound like the subs are strugling because its overpowerd i like to have a nice smooth bass line but thats my input

The technical way is to find out what the specs for the line input are on your amplifier, and what the gain range is. If you have 4v preouts then set the gain dial to about 4v. The gain is not a volume dial, its just something to make sure that the amplifier is working with the correct amount of power.

4 volt pre outs on your deck or what? That part confused me a little bit. I read something a while ago about getting the sin wave and setting your gains that way. Does anyone know any further detil into that than what i already stated?

OK, first click the "Search" icon on this page and search for "setting gain."  Read.  Then go check out a few resources like these:

And if you are serious, http://www.bcae1.com/settinggainswithscope.htm

Not many decks truly produce 4 volts out of their preamp outputs. I know my inexpensive alpine deck says 2 volt preamp outputs but i know that is only a reading with the volume almost all the way up. If it set my gain to 2 volts on my amp i would barely be getting any output from my sub. You just have to listen to distortion when setting your gains.
