I decided to create a new thread for this, cause its slightly diff than the other

But, what is breaking in a sub? I am getting ready to install my 2 subs in my car, but what is this breaking them in? How does it work, how do you do it, why do you do it, what?

thanks, it seems like i learn more about what needs to be done with installing a system every day :P

it just makes the cone if im not mistaken more flexable.... causeing it to be moved easier.....i think thats about it....

If your cone is flexing, you've got a serious problem what is breaking in a new sub? -- posted image.

Its used to make the suspension more flexible. Basically all you do is run the sub to flex it out. The best way to do this is run a wave through it using a wave generator or a tone cd or something of the sort. Do this in free air so it has the most excursion. You don't have to turn it up much or put much power through it, just enough to keep it moving nicely.

If you search for speaker break in on the forums I'm sure you'll find more information about the subject.

i used a track on a bass cd i used to have that played a 30hz note for about 10sec. i just put it on repeat and let it play for about an hour while washing the car.

elemental designs break in period they say is running it at a lower power for an hour or so. It does just make it more flexable, but the owner and designers at ed dont really believe its neccesary.

84 s10 x cab being airbagged right now. Soon to be an elemental 12o sub and a JBL amp(amp model undecided as of now)
