Hi, you have no idea how useful all this infomation has been ywbd!!.  I did the same as Peter and got a similar model off ebay(giordon TOP-686)- and have spent the last 2 days trying to work out where all the wires go!.

I  am a little unsure with what 2 of the wires do/go-

Purple- Tach input -This may be a stupid question but what is 'Tach' ? and if it is what i think it is why does that need to be connected to the alarm?

Blue- Door Trigger (-) Input-  Does this get connected to the interior negative light wire that is activated from the door?

thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew
Purple---Tach input(+)---Why need connect this wire ? Because If you don't connect this wire and use remote start, the alarm system cannot judgment remote start is success or not, so you need connect this wire!!!(If you don't connect this wire use remote start, after remote start success, alarm system in succession move starter moter endless.)
Blue---Door Trigger (-) Input---No problem this wire connected to the interior negative light wire, if your vehicles domelight wire is these voltage pattern;
Door open--- Zero volt(Negative)
Door close-- +12 volt
Good luck!!

Hi,

Your full of great knowledge!!!  - I Just about understand everything now, except from one thing:  Im not exactly sure what the Tach input (+) is?  is that on the starter motor or is that the alternator(charging system).  On the small diagram i have, it looks like you have to wrap the wire round something - which looks like an alternator???

I hope this is not taking up too much of your time or annoying you!!!

thanks

Andrew

Hi again,
Yes, Tach input is (+). Connect to vehicles tach wire (If your vehicle has tach Meter) or round Ignition coil(+) output wire or alternator(+) output wire.
In install diagram books picture is Ignition coil,If your vehicle has this coil, then like picture the Purple wire round at this coils output wire.(This is high current wire for distributor.)
Good luck!!

Hi,

I have managed to get most of the wiring sorted thanks to ywdb's super advice!!!- your a wiring genius.

I have got the central locking all working, which is great.  I just have one problem that is really confusing me:

The remote start will only work when the alarm is locked for some reason.  Then when it start the engine it runs perfectly for about 20 seconds and then there are lots of ticking noises from the realys and the alarm box........ I dont know what would happen next because i stopped it for obvious reasons!!!!

Anyone got any ideas???

thanks again ywdb, i honestly couldn't have got this far without your help!

Hi Andrew,
This remote start will only work when system is armed. If system is disarmed, then remote start cannot work.
Then when it start the engine it runs perfectly for about 20 seconds and then there are lots of ticking noises from the realys and the alarm box...
I think remote starter relays ticking noises only one time.(Start the engine it runs perfectly for about 20 seconds, the relay has ticking noise one time)This noise is no problem. If you heard this noise, Accessory line relay started working.
Ticking noises in alarm box relay...It is no problems!! When this system remote start is active, the system will flashing turn light. So this ticking noise is flashing relays noises.I think you not connect systems Brown wire???If you connect these wire and use remote start, then you understand this noises no problem.(ticking noise one time, turn light flashing same tim

hi all

i too brought a 686 from ebay and have spent 2 days getting my DIESEL transit to accept it

i have most of it sorted but not sure what the crack is with the remote start function, in an earlier post someone wrote if no ht present then connect to altenator+, does this mean wrap around 5 times as with ht or does it mean join to it? i have tried both and it cranks the van and starts it runs for maybe 3seconds then shuts off then does it again and again and again untill i put ignition on while its running.

i think it is a strong possibility a wire is wrong but have no clue which one please help while i still have a little hair left attached to my head

many thanks

alf

thanks again and sorry to be a nuisance
