WOW!!!! I've heard that the legacy is pretty crappy.... but what doesnt make sense, is that the specs say that it pushes 500 watts by 2 at 2ohms.... or bridged into 4 ohms it pushes 1000 watts by 1..... how can it say this stuff without it being true???

If I were to power the subs (with out having to worry about maxing them out, cause I want to make them last for a while).. what would be the best bang for the buck??? and I'm goin for some where between SPL..... and I'd like to push 2 ohms.... thanks

How can they say that, thats easy. Cause they are liars and its not illegal. Technacly with the right voltage and the right frequencies you could, in theory make that amp produce those numbers for about a second before the thing melted down like three mile island. Thats why they are starting to phase in a specific set of paremeters that everyone must test their amps by. That is suposed to be set for 100% compliance buy 2006.

What amp do you suggest that'd be the best bang for the buck w/out having to worry about over powering them??? I would prefer something that could push a 2ohm load steadily....

Maybe a JBL bp 1200.1. That might be too much for those comp vrs though.

Actually, Ravendarat, you are right, it is not illegal, BUT they are not lying. The way they get away with it is this: They drive the amplifier with a 1kHz tone, from zero input signal to a maximum input signal, then back to zero input, in 100 milliseconds. This maximum input signal might be 20 volts, it might be 150 millivolts, it does not matter. While they are doing this, they are monitoring the output voltage, while tied to a VERY fixed 2 ohm resistor, (not a dynamic load, like a loudspeaker) with an oscilloscope. As long as it does not clip, (basically, as long as the distortion products remain below 10%) and most amps will not clip for periods this short, and the o-scope says that it is making 500 watts, then they CAN call it a 1000 watt amplifier. It is not outright lying, it is cheating, however. Oh, and this is done on only one channel at a time, which requires HALF the power supply stiffness as doing it with both channels at the same time. The spec sheet SHOULD read 500wpc, 1kHz tone burst, one channel driven into 2 ohms, THD <10%. But then nobody would buy the POS, would they? <LOL>
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

My friend has a Pyramid amp that is supposedly 1000W bridged, 500W 2 channel. Its most definatly not. I would go look at Rocford Fosgate or Kicker amps, Pheonix is also good. For something a little less expensive I have a Power Acoustick amp thats pretty good.

If you ignore the comment about the liar, isnt the rest of what you said basically a long version of what I was saying? I know that was what I meant to get across

I made a similar error in judgement by attempting to power a Alpine R w/ a Lanzar Vibe amp.  Sure it says 600W RMS, more like 150W if that.  I think Legacy and Lanzar are both owned by the crapufactorer Pyramid anyway.  I did my sub a favor and brought it home a Rockford Fosgate Power 451 to play with.  It has never been happier!
