Many of you may think that the Alpine type-E subs are just cheepo subs that don't put out that much, and can't handle to much, but, in my fun test today i discovered that these lil subs broke our shop record for lasting the longest plugged directly into the wall!!!Type-E 's aren't as weak as you think! -- posted image.   A lil E-10" lasted 3min 30 seconds of continuous 120v  open air, inverted on the floor, , and its still functional!!!!  It got a lil stinky so we stoped hehe.   It beat the previous record holder, , the R-15 haha by a wopping 15 seconds, lol.

And the shortest lasting sub was a clarion 15" at 13 seconds haha, crappy clarion!

You guys kill me.  That is funny!
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

(Dave raises his hand) Were they 8 ohm, or 4 ohm? DVC (series or parallel wiring) or SVC? I ask because this will make a HUGE difference in how much power they were actually getting... (This sounds like something I used to do at the Radio Shanty where I used to work... THAT was a good time, only I used to put 'em back in the box BWAHAHAHA!)
To wit:
120 vRMS times 1.414 = 170 v p-p
now the rule is p-p voltage squared, divided by 8 divided by the load
170 times 170 = 28900/8 = 3612/16 = 225 watts
170 times 170 = 28900/8 = 3612/8 = 451 watts
170 times 170 = 28900/8 = 3612/4 = 902 watts
170 times 170 = 28900/8 = 3612/2 = 1804 watts
Even if they were 8 ohm, SVC drivers, the power the VC would actually be getting is 450 watts, which I will grant you is probably a lot more than the driver is rated for, but the voltage from the wall IS TRUE sine wave, and NEVER clipped. (See what we have been saying about clipping?) Also the EXTREME excursions made by this kind of power running into a free air woofer, will cause a tremenous cooling effect on the voice coil, so even at twice the power, I am impressed, but not as impressed as I should be, I think. I watched an Eclipse Titanium 10, voice coils paralleled, for a two ohm load, (1800 watts) run for three days CLAMPED TO THE BENCH, CONE DOWN, and still did not blow. TAHT was worth the effort! The magnet structure was so hot you could not touch it, and the shop stunk to high heaven! Ahhh, those were the days...
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

it was a single 4 ohm sub, , , , its still not blown, , , we just stopped it at the smoke point .   So whats the big bad math on that?  i got confused there/
