I'm looking into getting a butane soldering iron for doing occasional alarm and audio work. I like durable tools as you don't have to buy them again. I saw a Bernzomatic and a Weller at Home Depot today. 18 for the Weller and 25 for the Bernz. Thought why drop that much money when for a little more I can get a better tool.

I've searched the posts and am appalled! at some of the wiring methods, twist and tape, LOL! I solder at work and it doesn't add much time, once you have the wires to that point you might as well hit them with the iron.

Let me know which butane iron you think I should get!

I got the bernz through parts express for I think 20 bucks (home depot can be expensive on some things)

How do you like the Bernz? Is the heat controlable? Does it work well?

wow, i was going to post the Ultra torch too but i didnt think anyone else had it.  i bought mine from the matco tool truck.  i love it.  i use about 2 tips a year on it.  i think matco is selling a new iron for about the same price $100 to $120 or so.

anyway, the master appliance is a good iron, it looks like other people agree!

I have one also.  I believe Grainger sells the master alittle cheaper though.  I've had mine for around 7 years.

http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/MST-UT100SI.html has the Master for $77.00.   Is this the one everyone likes best.   It seems like quite a good deal if it is.     Tom
