i know pyramid is garbage but today i saw something that amazed me. this fool had 6 pyramid hyper series 15 inch squares in an 95 4 dr tahoe running off 2 kicker 1200 watt amps and it was all custum done and he went against an 95 bronco running 3 kicker 15 i7's that each had and audiobahn 1300 hct amp and he killed the kickers. now i know he had more subs but damn we are talking pyramid subs here low of the low. i talked to the pyramid owners and asked why he decided to use pyramids 'the man owns an car audio shop' he told me he gets more joy using cheap stuff and building monster sound systems and then watching are faces when we see he is using pyramids man the subs were paper subs just about and it made me think if you have the knowledge you can make any sub bump. oh by the way it was clean bass not bad garbage sounding...............do yall think he hid some subs in the truck

Nah, you can even make jensen loud. It is more in the enclosure then what sub is in it. With that being said better sub in a better enclosure will win.

I use 4 pioneer 12 inch tsw305dvc in my truck and routinly crush all th other vehicles in competion in this city. I do it for the same reason as him, to show that you dont need $800 subs to win. In the last two years I am 6-1 for first place finishes, the 1 is a second place finish and it was a SQ competion, I didnt know it was sq before I went. I was sitting in the lot under my dash hoking up my front speakers because I had disconected them so I wouldnt blow them up in the lanes but figured they would be kinda nessasary to compete in the sq contest.

ya i really hear where that guy is coming from because i was in an state of shock. i know its all about the enclosure but if somebody would had told me this i would have been like what you smoking but you learn something new everyday. oh by the way he told me his whole system including wires and batterys costed less then 1500.00 all together including the enclosure which was sealed with each sub having its own chamber an 2.4 cf of air. the kickers had an vented enclosure and i used to think an vented beats an sealed hands down.

Ported boxes only help in spl if you have the boxes tuned to the proper frequency and then use the proper frequency burp when runnig through the lanes. I see people make this mistake all the time. The box is tuned to a different frequency then what is ideal and then they play the wrong track and negate the advantage of the port.

Ravendarat - Kids must be taught to fear and respect that ESCALATOR!

Skylark - Yup probably beat him fair and square.  People love to show out their 2 "big500$each" brand name 15's and their 600$ 800 watts mono amp.  I stand around quietly.  Then I say hey check this out and show em what one 10w3, in a ported box with only 250 watts and proper tuning does to the guy with all that money with sh*tty set up. Not that im louder, but FFS the fact that my one little speaker comes close...  Its in his set up is what im saying.  And maybe the guy with the kickers could have beat him if he had a better set up, maybe not.  But I'll take some middle of the lane equipment, and you can give some top of the line sh*t to the kid down the street who thinks he is in a constant audition for the next Faster N’ Furious’r movie and I'll build a system to crush the special ed reject.  Set up, checkmate.

some of the "bottom" line subs are better than you think. yes they are not the best, but you can build a system with cheap stuff and get some good spl. now sq that's a horse of a diffrent color. some sound good, but not great. if they are all you can afford or all you want to afford then i say run them.

I'd have to say it was the Audiobahn amp. I don't know what enclosures they have but the Audiobahn divided three ways wasn't even giving the L7's half of their recommended 1000w RMS each. Not only that, Audiobahn lies, lies, lies about there output so it probably wasn't event that much power. The pyramids had all the power they need and any sub that can move air will create bass, but for how long? The pyrimids will fatigue alot sooner while the Kicker is still bumpin years later.
My wife will never understand why, lucky for her!

A good installer can take the worlds crappiest gear and make it sound perform good. Except Bose and Sony, they should just go away, far away.

i dont care how long they last cause most people i know keep their system for one year then change it to something newer. im so tempted to take my ride to that guys job because he was talking about putting 4 of them squares in my 94 k-5 blazer i buy the subs and supply the amps 2 jbl 1200 bp.1 and pay for the enclosure he said all for less then 300.00 because i can get the subs off ebay right now for 99.95 for 2 so it would be 250 in all and i have 7 jbl 1200 watt amps laying around why cause i love them amps and for 220.00 an amp on ebay you can go wrong with jbl but damn they are power hungry.........if my system sounds as good as his i would love to enter and sound off . but im still an loyal kicker fan cause i have 4 kicker solo i7 12's in my car running of one cliff design 4000 watt amp. but them pyramid squares would have still beat me.....thats an damn shame huh?
