I am installing a R/S on a 2002 Caravan.Black Key (no transponder key). The vehicle already has factory keyless entry. My question is do I still need to connect  the wires for the power locks if I just want the remote start function? All I want to be able to do is start the vehicle and turn on the rear defogger? What wires do I connect? The R/S I am installing is a Code Alarm CA-530. All tips are appreciated.

Turn the key on and see if the factory remote still works. If it does then you can do what you like, if it doesn't then you should hook the locks up and ditch the factory remote. I would recommend the latter in either event.

Yeah I'll try and see if it works like that. The reason I wanted to stay with the factory remotes is because the van has power sliders and power tailgate that are controlled from the remote. I have another question also. Is it poss. to activate the rear defogger on this vehicle with the R/S. It has a momentary switch and a timer. I have heard from some that it is not possible. Thanks

Could someone tell me if it is possible to  wire up a remote start to switch on the rear defroster in a 2002 dodge caravan.

Thanks
