the stripper i used was like this one from radioshack. its total crap. i wasnt using it for anything like 4gauge wire or anything, nothing larger than 16 if memory serves. like bp_viper says, they just stretch the insulation. after looking at the one from parts express shown above, it does look like that is a bit better quality, also im assuming that if they made the blade actually shap enough to cut insulation the radioshack one would work descently.

One of the other factors people must keep in mind is that some cabling use very rubberized insulation.
Anyone who has used such cabling knows that they stretch, and stretch, regardless of the strippers used.
