i was planning on bridging it into a 2 channel amp that pushes 360 W out to power my 400 W RMS subs. I got a feeling that I might overdrive my amp to power my 10" subs. I was wondering if it is true.

Here is my guidance. From everything I have read over the years, Its my belief that a 4 channel amp is more designed for driving coaxil speakers. Plus, I also like to drive my woofers with a mono class D amp so there arent 2 different channels of bass thatmay conflict. Plus, if you amp will bridge to 360 RMS and the suba are 400RMS each, then you are really underpowering your woofers (not to a point where it will damage them but where they are not living up to there potential). Plus, generally mono and 2 channel amps capable of mono are cheaper per watt cause there power may be a little "dirtier" but you dont need as clean power for driving woofers. If I were you, id buy all around new speakers and power them with that nice 4 channeler and get a mono sub amp or sell the 4 channel and use the money to buy a nice sub amp. Cause generally, i dont think 4 channels are designed for subwoofer applications unless posibly component systems.

Play it till it is dead, but save some money in the mean time so you can buy a better amp when that one catches on fire.

I was thinking about a Power Axoustic Gothic 1200 W max amp. Its RMS is 2 X 300 W @ 4 ohms.

well, you need to know alot before you randomly hook stuff up. Like if you have single or double voice coil woofers and if they are 2 ohm or 4 ohm voice coils. This is essential cause that determines hoiw they will hook up to your amp and how many ohms they will be pulling out of the amp. 2x300 at 4 ohms is good but that can only work if your woofers are single 4 ohm each or dual 2 ohm each. i have heard mixed reviews on the power acoustic series but running them at a cool 4 ohms, they should be ok. Plus, since that is a cheaper amp brand, they usually wont put out all the RMS that they say they will. But dont go overboard on that statement and get an amp that is too big for the woofers. And as for the guy who says just burn the amp out, well thats a total waste of $$. Even if you get say $50 for the amp, its at least something you know?

Some of what has been advised here is true, some is faulty.  A four channel amp will drive subwoofers as well as other types of speakers.  You didn't say what subs you are using  " my 400 watt RMS subs...".  Is that two subs at 200 watts each?  What are their ohm ratings?

A 4 channel amp, if bridgeable, can be divided into two.  One sub on channels 1 and 2, the other sub on 3 and 4.  Make sure you don't overload the amp below its rated ohm load capacity.  It is most likely rated at no lower than 4 ohm bridged.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I agree. Post as much info on your subs as possible, use the 4 channel for your mids (if it's clean sounding enough for you - i personally don't like the sound out of Jensens, but that's my opinion) or sell it, and get a better amp. This amp will work, but you could probably get so much more out of the subs.

Oh yeah - you will never "over drive the amp" if you set the gain properly, and know the 'safe' volume level to keep your headunit out of clipping, no matter what speakers are hooked to it.

I am currently running my 4 channel Jensen in my Suburban as a 3 channel.  Channels A and B x-over @ about 80 and running my front components.  C and D are bridged and x-over at around 70.  The CnD are running a JL 10w3 into 2ohms, it has never shut down, does get fairly hot, and delivers fair sound quality.  Its always the last component i show and the one i fail to mention before someone hears it.  I always get the "no sh*t, a Jensen" line.  I know it's not the sh*t, but its what i got.  The dampening factor is not so great, which is no doubt helped along by the 2 ohm load, but you can get away with it.  Im saying you should go for it, try different configs with it.  If you blow it before you get a new one, oh-well.  But, if you dont then use it to power the full range speakers in your car (asuming you have upgraded them to).  Do not undestimate the clarity you can get by getting those speakers off the deck power.  I dont care who manufaturers your deck, the 25 watts from it is NOT the same as 25 watts from a seperate amp (for many reasons).  But whatever you do I hope you get enjoyment out of your system.  For fun here is a Jensen amp review:  http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/0210cae_jensen/
