hey guy's,

I am currently building a box for my new MTX Thunder 8104's. The question is, where do you get the carpet for the enclosure. I was thinking about having my brother in law paint it but, now I am more leaning to carpet as it is going in the back of my mini van that doesn't have a third row of seats and if I carpet it, I won't so much have to worry about it moving around. At least untill I build the amp rach that is gonna go in front of it.

Also, I am builing it to fire upwards. Will this be ok or should I fire it to the back of the vehicle?

Some auto parts stores carry trunk liner carpet, check there first.

hey check out your local craft store they normally have it too, or you might find something you like better.   firing upwards sometimes sounds better in large cargo vehicles

Ok, cool, I will check the Craft store first.

One more quick question. Divided chambers or open chamber. Does it really matter if the box is divided or not? With both subs running in mono they are in sinince so as long as the total volume is as required all should be good right? Or wrong?

I'd check out Sound Domain.  They have pretty good prices.  Here's a link: http://www.cardomain.com/shoplist~b~Stinger~t~Carpet

If you run them in the same box un-divided (I.E same air space) is fine, with the proper cuft air space for both subs. just remember if one takes a dump the other has twice the space required and won't last much longer. just make sure the gains are set correctly

for the carpet....some carpet stores carry auto carpet or something that would work just as good, lower grade interior carpet. shop around

I have heard subs in larg cargo area. If you have pleanty of sub to fill that cab with bass then up fireing would be the way to go, but from what Im guessing you have 2 10s? withch will sound like you oppend you trunk and let your sub pull in all the air from out side. I would think that haveing the sub face backward and haveing an acoustical wall to bounce off will give you a better, cleaner sound just as long as the rear hach dosen't rattle like crazy. And as for carpet I alaways whent to my local car audio store and they had the thin box carpet. I also used to go to walmart before the audio store was there and wall mart had some thincker black carpet in the auto department that was fairly cheap. I had enogh to cover a dual 1 cube box for 2 12s. Also I would put a devider in your box it is better for sound, safer for your subs, and garenties you the right amout of air space. hope this helps you.

For the beginner box builder, I recommend divided chambers, especially if drivers are stereo wired. Mono configuration does not require seperate chambers, but bracing is an absolute must, weather they are high powered or not. Since you have chosen single chamber, wire the drivers as followed: amp to driver1; driver1 to driver2. Also, make sure you measured displacement as accurate as possible. For driver firing, I recommend upwards angled towards the rear. In my experiance with vans & suvs, upwards sounds cleaner, while towards the back sounds harder, at the same time, it is also to the users taste.
