I was looking into getting a new amp and ive seen a few people talking about the Hifonics amps and i was curious how good they are if there really worth the money. I was looking at the brutus 1800 or the 1500.

I've got plenty of experience with the BX500D through BX1500D series, I have never been disappointed with their performace. They put out the power they say they do and they do it very effectivly. I'd recomend the BX1500D over anything in the 1000-2000 watt class any day of the week and from what I hear the new line of 1800 and 2000 watt amps they're making are just as good if not better.

HEHEHE Three words...Zues Cheater Amps.....

If you can find any of the Older Zues Model amps they would do waaay more than they were rated...I have seen them run VERY Stable down to 1/2 Ohm....and have been "Burpable" at 1/4 Ohm....

Hard to find these old Dinosaurs...But I have 3 and thats all I need.....

I have had alot of experiance with USAmps. they have a killer monitor built into there SPL amps. basicly your dealer will have a dataport cable that plugs in to the amp and a computer and it could give you down to the .sec how long the amp had been played, Voltage, what caused the short circut (if there was one) and some other info if I remember correctly. But they are expensive and mostly Designed (in my Opinion) for SPL. I would say they are worthy of at least a second look if thats the dir. you want to go. :)

I have sold and installed HiFonics since 1992.The company has changed hands a few times,but the goods are stll there.They make some entry level stuff which is good,but you get what you pay for.The old series 8 and X amps were powerhouse's.The XI and XX are great.The Brutus amps are very efficient and run at a reasonable temp.Find a dealer and give em' a shot.You won't be disappointed(but your friends might).

Just a bit of trivia: I owned a store in the 1980's in the Los Angeles area that was a HiFonics dealer. I knew the guys that designed the amps, in those days a company in Chatsworth, California called Zed Audio. I did sound competitions in those days and that was when the first Orion red amps hit the market, high-current amps that were capable of 4 times their 4-Ohm rated power. This was when the term "cheater amps" first appeared because people were using a "100-watt" amp to compete, when it was really producing 400 watts.

To make a boring story short, I attended the CES in Vegas that year and told the guys at HiFonics that Orion was kicking their butt with the high-current amps. That is when they came out with their own high-current amps, the "Platinum Series".

Those platnium amps were great.I talked a customer into a Ulysses and he really raised hell!
