i had an amp running my highs and subs and then i tried an old amp that i had and now it makes that f&%^& wistling sound i had my wire ground in the same spot.  i took off the old amp and now it makes the wistling sound.

Umm.. a little clarification would be nice, as well as punctuation.
What are your amp, what are they pushing, what is you HU, and how do you have it all wired??

"older amp" and "whistling sound" usually add up to the pre-amp voltage from your HU is too high (most older amps cannot handle anything greater than 2 volts) and/or the amplifier input gain is set too high.
