I have a Dual voice coil 4 ohm woofer. What happens when you run it with an amp with an impendance of 1 ohm? Lets say the woofer rms rating is 500. and you run an amp that puts out 500w @ 1 ohm. is that safe?

And amp doesn't have an impedence (or ohms), that is determined by your speaker, or subwoofer in this case. Depending on how you wire your speaker is how you create a certain resistance level.   With your speaker, you can either have a 2 ohm or 8 ohm load to your amplifier. The specs of your amp at those resistances and whether or not your amp can handle those resistance will help you determine how to hook everything up.

your just missing the whole question here man! Let me rephrase the question. Is it okay if you have a dual 4 ohm woofer wired in 2ohm, hooked up to an amp that is 1 ohm stable? If not, what happens to the woofer?

The short answer?  Nothing.  If your amp is 1 ohm stable, and you have the woofer wired to run at 2 ohms, then it's going to work.  Period.  There's no problem with setup.

Give the man some respect for taking the time to explain something important to you.  You did say "an amp with an impedance of 1 ohm..."

When you get to the point where you understand the relationship between an impedance load and the effect it has on the amp, and you're not phrasing your questions like that, then maybe somebody will sorta understand what you're saying.

Cheers

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
