How do I position fans on amp?

I got a RF 501x amp, and I am planning to put some fans on it, since the area of the amp doesn't get much air flow. Where would I position the fans, and what fans would work best on it? I was thinking of making a small wood frame and attaching computer fans to it, Im a noob so I need advice, Thank you.

computer fans work well and you would want to make atleast 1 on either side...1 fan pushing air across the amp and the other pulling the air from the amp.Quad L Handyman services

depending on your setup is what you shall choose for fans. i personally like "sqirrel fans" dont ask me where that name came from. anyway i believe they are called cylinder fans. they are 8" x 1.75". they are great cuz u can mount them on your amp rack, etc, right beside your amp. and they really put out some air, blowing right through the cooling fins on your amp. other fans need a special rack and could get ugly looking if not done right. dont bother with pc fans, they are not dc. if your amp isnt visible and you dont care about beauty, you mount a standard square fan 3"x3" on amp with 3m doubleside tape. if i were you, i would make sure your amp is getting hot and is in need of a fan, then i would go with what i said earlier. in your case,you can run a seperate power source but can get away with running it off the remote wire and a ground. owner of

why do people mess with pc fans? why bother when there are fans in the 12 volt industry? and would someone explain where the dc power is coming from inside the pc.owner of

Because retailers mark up the price on the same exact pc fans to make a ton of money off of people that don't know any better.

From the power supply. You know those project DC power supplies you can get at radio shack? Pretty much the same thing.

 

All that being said...I use a squirrel cage fan myself… it was more convenient for where I needed it to be.

Because they're cheap, easy to use, quiet, and can move some major air. Think about it, if a 10cm fan is cooling a processor from 300*F down to 98*F, don't you think it would work well to keep your amp cool too?? Paul

just a bit of info on an RF amp.  up until 2004 there fin design stay the same, if you have the amp mounted flat it will over heat, but  "if you mount it standing up the air flows though the fins to cool it"   (Mark Fukuda- RTTI)  this is what RF rec.
