Well, I have a dialy driver, going to school, gym, etc so I spend a lot of time in my vehicle, I'll have a job in the next few months, but until then I would like to add some things so I can enjoy music in my van...

Anywho, right now I hav a broken Head Unit in there, along with a Portable CD Player hooked in to it...no lows, some cheapy speakers...

I want to add components, a head unit, and some subs...

my budget is about $1000-$1200...

I'm looking for maybe two subs, something to sound good and tide me over for the next couple of months until I get a job...

Any recommendations kick ***...thanks...

Go to crutchfield.com and see what speakers fit your van. buy some of those they're at a decent price. As far as subs, just look through this forum to see what people say and decide from there.

maybe look towards the lines of alpine or jl with some of the lower lines you could reach this budget

What make and model of van do you own?

Here is an example of an SQ system that would get plenty loud also (assuming you have 6.5"front speakers):

Alpine 6.5" Type S components up front

Blaupunkt Monte Carlo headunit

Alpine 2 channel amp (for front speakers).

Infinity Kappa 10" subs

MTX 421D mono amp.

Add a box and wiring kit in and you will be at about $1100.

a 1993 Dodge Caravan, the biggest I can fit in my dash location is 5.25 (5 1/4)...

Size is never a problem w/ fiberglass (for the 5.25")

. The infinity kappas ROCK for the price. I would put money on it that there are few subs that compete w/ that price for that quality. i've got one myself and am lookin at another. Drop that bad boy(s) in a sealed .75 cu ft box hook two of them up to a 500-600 watt amp (I like MTX or JL) and play away for the bass. If you want to go over budget I would also recomend the Kicker Solo barics (or the Comp VR's are nice also). Components I would recomend JL, Polk Momo, or Infinity again. If you are good with the budget $1000 can buy a really nice system. Make a kick @$$ ride. But this is also a very opinionated topic also. Everyone can tell you something different.

for fronts, as boxmaker said, everyone can tell you something different.

but i've been happy with my 5 1/4 Phoenix Gold Ti Elites, plenty loud, and im only giving them 50watts (rated at 250rms) put those in your front, and work on your bass from there.

my only suggestion is if you can afford fiberglass, or modding the van, go with 6.5's i think they would offer more mid-bass that you would need in addition to the bass coming from the sub.

and for subs, i would have to agree with boxmaker again, 500-600watts should be plenty to hold you through the summer. i heard some ultimate subs, running on a pioneer deck, they seemed inexpensive in comparison to other brands, and when heard on a alpine setup with an alpine deck, i much preferred the sound from the ultimates.

I'm thinking either 300 Watts going to 1 JL 12W3v2, or 600 Watts going to 1 Kicker, or 600 Watts going to 2 10 or 12" Infinity Subs?

1 or 2 Subs? I don't want to have to upgrade the alternator...Opinions welcome.

On the Midrange...I REALLY want to use a pair of 6.5's, heres the problem, Kick Panels aren't really an option, because I'm tall and my leg would block the driver side sound (at least I think)...plus, it might be difficult getting around the hood lever and such...

Is there another way I can mount them? I have Fiberglass and wood, just no idea on where to mount them...

Look into the 10w6v2's also. Those are nice but can (actually do, but check on ebay) run more than you might want to pay right now. If you're runnin around 600 watts no matter how many subs you have you shouldn't need to upgrade the alternator. But as far as what you have said dubosv11, JL, Kicker, and Infinity are all great brands to go with. What kind of kicker? The 10" L5 Solo is nice along w/ the 12. Make sure when you get your amp that you look into it. Some companies (not to mention any names, kicker) do have a hefty price tag for the type of amp. Yeah they might be good and pretty and clean, but I've also hard many many other types for cheaper prices that sound just as good. As far as you're 6.5", kick panels are probably you're best bet. Do you have anything under you're hu and above the hump for the tranny (like a console)? If not think about makin an enclosure to aim two 6.5 out toward the driver and passenger. No even whith your leg "blocking" the kick panel you should still get a good sound out of them.

Hey /r7 where did you get your Phoenix Golds? I'm wanting to put ing some upgraded 6 x 9 in my rear deck and want something that handels power if I hook it up to an amp.
