Head unit question

 It has 2 plugs on the back. One large and one small. I used what appeared to be the speaker lines on the large plug

Chances are that you have grabbed a signal from a preamp line. This will probably feed a signal to the LOC that is too hot to use. Either find the hidden factory amplifier and tie into the speaker wires after it or purchase a Audio Control LC6 (or other interface) which can take that "hot" of an input signal and replace the LOC with it.
