. What you can do to verify if there is in fact a transponder chip in the key is to get a plain key cut ( it's only a couple of bucks ) and try to start the car with the plain key. If it starts it and it stays started then you know it's something else. If the doesn't start at all then it's got the transponder chip. ** Don't be fooled that if it starts and runs and shuts down again, this could be tach programming issues **
