Run a search, they have been discussed before. Personally the only thing I buy from them are DVD-Rs, can't beat 25 for $7.00. They also use alot, and I mean alot, of refurbished stuff.

Fry's prices can be quite good, but don't go into one expecting it to be a *REAL* electronics store with people working there who might actually know something.

We had one open up down the street from us in downers grove IL its the first in the midwest. The store sucks. I went in there trying to see what the car audio guys knew. All they would push is kicker this or kicker than because the margin is so high. There on commision there so they will sell you whatever makes them the most money. Also make sure your buying something new and not a refurb. I work at best buy so i stay loyal to my company.

PREACH ON, DYohn! Many of the guys at Fry's couldn't find their asses with both hands, and I think I'm being pretty nice to say it that mean! Yeah, the refurb stuff is rampant there, I'm STILL fighting with them, over a year later, regarding a refund on a USB to SCSI adapter by Adaptec... Adaptec said there was no warranty, three days after I bought it, when I called to get support, because the thing kept crashing my computer on reboot... Apparently, Fry's likes to sell things they are not authorized to sell. I expect I am never going to see my 80 bux again!
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Here's a Frys horror story: a couple years ago I purchased a Soyo motherboard for a computer I was building.  It would not boot and I suspected a bad I/O chip.  So I marked the chip and the box with a big red Sharpie "X," disassembled everything and took it back, telling them of course about my suspiscions.  They exchanged the MB no problem, and the second one was dead too.  Finally on the third go, it worked like a charm.  A few days later I was back in Frys and decided to look at MBs again and guess what?  The defective board (complete with my big red "X") was back on the shelf, re-shrink-wrapped and marked down $20.  I assume the second one which I did not mark was back in the stack too.  I asked the so-called "area expert" WTF and he said my diagnosis must have been wrong.  Sure, like they tested it...  I asked once if they knew of a good SCSI-I to SCSI-III adapter cable and the sales person looked at me like I was from Mars.  Frys was a great idea 20 years ago.  Today they are simply another big-box with lots of consumer electronics.  They should have stayed selling groceries.

There are about 4 Fry's in the area I live in. All Ive ever heard is BAD concerning thier warrantee or lack of such. An ex-employee told me they have an "Out-a-sight" warantee , as soon as your Out of sight , the warantee expires.

I work for a major electronics retailer as a repair tech at a service center, fixing computers. Two of my co-workers previously worked at the Fry's in Downers Grove, IL, and quit to come work with us. They said it was a terrible place to work and the management was awful there. They seem to be decent employees too, always at work on time, respectful of the boss, etc, so I dont think that their attitudes were the problem either.
I would avoid that place like the ebola virus.
