Has anyone made a subwoofer catch on fire? The wall socket test perhaps? God i'm desperate for some input...
"I don't play games. I play Nakamichi and that for real yo" - Probably some japanese kid said this in the early 80's trying to sell stereo out of his trunk lol.

a wall socket will probably not catch a sub on fire. If you apply way too much power across a wire, it burns up in a split second. I used to do this with tiny strands of wire across 6V lantern batteries. You'd have to get some current that's just at the right point for the wire to heat up slowly, which is very hard to do. If I remember correctly, heating wire lowers the resistance which makes it draw more current which makes it burn up faster and this keeps happening until it burns up.

Also, like I said in the other thread, you'll most likely blow a breaker anyway unless you do this in a shop w/ high current circuits.

I had a customer with a Fultron(before Memphis) booster/eq and a pair of 6x9's in the door of a Chevy pick up.He said they wen't sounding good anymore, and when I removed the grills the voicecoils and cone material were charred. He said he was jammin and he thought he saw a orange glow by his leg but he figured he was seeing things because he was tanked at the time.

no, but I put some cheap Pyle subs on a 1600 watt amp which was only 365x2 RMS and played them hard for about ten minutes and the subs got real hot, so hot I unscrewed the from the enclosure and the basket actually burned me it was the freakest thing and the stayed hot for about 20 minutes. I think that if I would of kept on them for a little longer they would have caught fire or something..

Probably won't catch fire, maybe a paper cone will, but will melt the metal (doubt the magnet but could soften the frame).  Seen an Audioahan rip it's surround.  Had 2000 watts of power running to that black sub (it's only 250 rms i think).  It was awsome.  Probably the coolest is to watch a poorly constructed box blow from pressure.  Make sure you are well away when it does though.  All you guys took firecrackers to your GI Joes when you were kid's, didn't you?   Woofers on fire -- posted image.

never saw a box blow apart but i did see the terminal blow out and leave a dent in my friends garage door. he didnt build the box, it was from a local shop. he returned it and they said they had a problem with them and thought they gave him a new one without problems. but that was awesome to see.

2 months ago I had a fellow come in with two Eclipse Titanium 10's. He was on his trip home to Campbell River, BC (Vancouver Island) from Northern Alberta in the oilfields. This is normally a good 2 day drive. He drives like the accelerator is stuck on the floor. He was in Hongcouver in 13 hours when just ouside of riceville his subs stopped and stayed stopped. We removed one sub and of course fully expected the magic smoke genie to escape, which he did BUT what I did not expect to find was both magnets melted right off of the basket on both speakers. This fellow is still disputing the claim with Eclipse who said, sorry there is no warranty, it is abuse. The place he bought the subs from is long gone so he has no recourse.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

I really don't understand the fascination with a woofer catching on fire, but hey to each his own.  The best way to do this (and the only way I've ever seen actual flames) is to use lighter fluid and a match.
