Also, is it a pain to get the redone headliner back into the car?

leave the staples in for added strength and kinda, you might wanna have your friend help, your gonna need an extra set of hands

Make sure you lay out your pattern for your buttons before you apply your foam, this way you can measure and use a ruler to get them straight. Once this is done drill all your holes for your buttons.

Once you apply your foam and material if you take a metal pic and heat it up with a torch just push it from the back side through your holes, this will "burn" a clean hold thru the foam and material.
