Hi All,
just wondering,
has anyone here ever tried to automate the glove box to open and close via a switch?
I was looking at some linear actuators, but they require alot of room (eg: a acuator with a 6" extension, is still ~8" or so when closed).
there's not much room in the dash area to fit the actuator.
I think I'll need something like a cable to push pull it closed. But I've only seen manual push/pull cables; and they were used for chokes on some carburated engines.
Never seen a cable powered by a motor...
so I dunno what to get....
any ideas or suggestions?
thanks guys
Ken

i'd say a motor that works on a pully/belt system, mind you you'd have to lose your button lock, or somehow incorp an unlock feature. either way i think i can reach mine just fine :-)
gl and show some pics when done :D

As mentioned if you don't have enough room for the actuator behind the glovebox, a simple pulley or two will allow you to mount the actuator in a more convenient spot.

What if you attached the actuator underneath, on the bottom of the glovebox,  instead of inside.  That  way it could push it closed and pull it open.

the motor was hidden under the dash and I welded a sprocket to the axle to connect the step motor...

Go get you a old printer and strip the parts out of it. The motor is a DC current motor and use the paper feed parts to open and close it. You will need to install a relay with a limit switch. then hook up a three pole switch for Open/Close

I think the esoteric design shop has something like that. I may be way off, but someone put a custom job on the glove box to hold a ps2 or xbox and the glove box opened via motor, sorry I don't know where to point you, but it can be done..
